O IMPACTO DA EVOLUÇÃO DAS MÍDIAS NOS ENCONTROS FAMILIARES PELA ÓTICA DE ANNIE ERNAUX

Abstract

This paper investigates how Annie Ernaux, in The Years, uses the image of meals, along with media archaeology, to reconstruct her individual memory from a collective one. For this analysis, we selected four passages depicting family meal scenario, individual memories of Annie Ernaux, which demonstrate the presence of the media in the collective memory. We also analyzed how the conversations during these meals have changed over the decades with the arrival and evolution of the media. To deepen the analysis, the following question was posed: with the rise and integration of media and new technologies into the family environment, especially during meals, has the prominence of memory diminished? Based on this question, we reflected on how coexistence between people has been lost as the media have emerged and how technological development has contributed to an impoverishment of experience. The theoretical framework includes Walter Benjamin’s concept of experience, Maurice Halbwachs’s theory of collective memory, and Eric de Sales’s critical reflections on history, memory, and forgetting.
