Abstract

ABSTRACT

In the academic path, the questions are more important than own answers. Elaborate a question that encompasses practice and encourages study, allows that trajectory to be as significant as first step. This is the movement that means this study: the norms and standard linguistic and the institutionalization of linguistics politics in Brazil.

We discuss Brazilian legislation with regard to curricular prescriptions for teaching Portuguese in Brazil, and we try to show how imprecise these prescriptions seem with regard to the idea of a linguistic standard. We then analyzed ideas of a norm for some theorists, starting from Saussure's structuralism precepts and reaching Brazilian linguists who investigate the issue of the Portuguese language's linguistic norm.
