  • Special Issue:"Educação Matemática na Contemporaneidade"
    Vol. 13 No. 3 (2024)

In 2021, a group of professors from the Institute of Exact Sciences and the Institute of Human Sciences and Letters at the headquarters campus of the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG) and the Institute of Applied Social Sciences, Varginha campus of this same university, created the Specialization course in Mathematics Education in Contemporary Times based on experiences in the initial and continuing education of mathematics teachers and the development of university research and extension projects.

Topics that presented themselves as difficulties in teaching practice such as Financial Education, Geometry, Statistics Education, Critical Mathematics Education, Mathematics Education in relation to Applied Social Sciences and studies on Numbers and Functions made up the subjects of this course, which was offered under the Open University of Brazil (UAB/CAPES), starting in 2023 and ending in 2024, with the participation of students from different states of Brazil working mainly in Basic Education.

A number of end-of-course papers were written and presented, encouraging an attitude of teacher researchers, i.e. teachers who use their own practice as an object of investigation and reflection. This issue is made up of articles resulting from some of these works that mark a perspective of Mathematics Education in Contemporary Times in which different themes are addressed with the expectation not only of expanding knowledge but also possible impacts on the practices of Mathematics teachers and even teachers from different areas. We wish you a great read!
