The aging process presents numerous challenges and remaining in one's own home during this process is a challenge for older adults, since in most cases, the environment in which they spent most of their lives is no longer suitable for the new demands arising from their age. This research aimed to list key points for planning housing that consider aspects related to aging and that can contribute to greater independence and autonomy for older adults. From a multi-method approach it was possible to understand some aspects that should be considered when planning these environments, such as architectural characteristics, accessories and equipment, layout of the environments, user feelings, technology, movement, aesthetics, ergonomics and orientation in space. There are several determinants for successful and quality aging, and the physical environment is one of them.
