Abstract

The composition of memory is an essential element in Montserrat Roig’s El canto de la juventud (1990). In this present article, we intend to analyze how the narration of the past is developed in her writing. In order to do it, we focus on three out of the eight short stories of the book in which the main theme is love: “Mar”, “La división” and “La manzana elegida”. The analysis is organized in three parts, according to each one of the short stories, and takes into account the woman’s perspective towards the past as a fundamental condition for the narrative.
