Abstract

Potentially dangerous drugs (PDD) or high surveillance drugs are defined as a group of drugs that have an increased risk of causing harm to the patient. During the period of hospitalization in a maternity hospital, pregnant women, puerperal women, and newborns may need to use some medication, which in turn can be classified as PDD. The objective of this work was to review and update the list and prepare a Pharmacotherapeutic Guide for PDD for the institution. Given the classification as PDD, a guide was prepared containing the main pharmacological, kinetic, and toxicological characteristics of 33 drugs, such as: International Nonproprietary Names (INN), reference drug, presentation, pharmacokinetics, mechanism of action, warnings and precautions, incompatibilities in site y, routes administration, drug interactions, risk and care. With this tool, it will be possible for health professionals to know more and more about PDD, to predict the possible dangers they can bring to users and thus prevent them, directly contributing to patient safety.
