Abstract

Admission to the university is an achievement, it brings several challenges and requires the adoption of new postures, responsibilities and adaptation on the part of the academic. In this sense, PRACE supports academics and welcomes those who present some degree of psychic suffering. This project aimed to analyze the data collected in PRACE and to set a profile of the students in psychic suffering. It is a cross-sectional study, in which the data were provided by PRACE's responsible psychologist to ensure confidentiality. In 2016, 90 students sought help from PRACE and in the year 2017 there were 118 students, most of them female in both years, aged between 17 and 38 years and the courses that most sought in the year 2016 were the Medicine (16.85%), Nursing (15.73%) and Pharmacy (8.99%), in the year 2017, Biological Sciences (16.10%), Nursing (13.56%) and Pharmacy (11.86%). In 2016 and 2017, 52.17% and 52.71% of academics had suicide thoughts. It is concluded that the objective of this study has been reached and this data may be used by the University in the future to devise strategies that help these students to prevent or treat psychic suffering.
