LIPID PROFILE EVALUATION OF WAR SHOOTERS IN ALFENAS-MG
Abstract
Although genetics and age are of great importance in the evolution of cardiovascular disease, other risk factors may be influenced by lifestyle changes to reduce cardiovascular events and increase survival in patients with risk. of coronary artery disease. Thus, laboratory tests are indispensable procedure for determination of the cardiovascular risk in a population. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the lipid profile and raise awareness of war shooters in relation to risk factors and forms of prevention and control of dyslipidemia. The study was conducted with apparently healthy war snipers listed during 2013. Educational lectures were given and blood was then collected for determination of total cholesterol and fractions by automated enzymatic method. Questionnaires were applied to assess the presence of other cardiovascular risk factors in the study population. Our results showed that the prevalence of dyslipidemia as well as overweight and obesity in the population studied was lower than that observed in other studies conducted with young individuals and adolescents. However, the target population revealed a high frequency of cases of hypertension and diabetes among their relatives, thus reinforcing the importance of raising the population's awareness of the importance of prevention and control of cardiovascular risk factors.
