THE ROLE OF CITIES IN THE ADAPTATION TO THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE ANTHROPOCENE

THE CITY OF ALFENAS (MG)

Abstract

The Anthropocene instigates actions aimed at adapting to the uncertain consequences of the period. Thus, this paper's main objective is to propose which should be the guiding questions for a possible future, highlighting the role of the Secretariat of Climate, Sustainability and Social Innovation of the city of Alfenas, and in the project "Movimento Reflorestar Alfenas: pensar global, agir local". To this end, the descriptive methodology and theoretical essay was used, explaining the actions of the Secretariat and instigating reflection on the performance of cities, in addition to the analysis of the tools Emission Policy Simulator (EPS Brazil) and System of Gas Emissions Estimates (SEEG). Thus, it is pointed out that cities can play a key role in supporting, creating and fostering initiatives that propose to mitigate the impacts of the Anthropocene, with a first step in the Climate Secretariats, emphasizing that systemic changes require systemic actions.
