ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GDP PER CAPITA AND THE IFDM INDEX COMPONENTS, FOR MUNICIPALITIES IN THE STATE OF MINAS GERAIS

Abstract

Economic development is one of the central issues for governments, whether municipal, state or federal. In this way, it is interesting that managers have tools that allow them to outline and evaluate strategies whose focus is to strengthen the economy of their region. The present work aims to present the FIRJAN Municipal Development Index (IFDM) for the state of Minas Gerais and relate it to the per capita GDP of Minas Gerais municipalities. The study was developed using the IFDM employment and income, education and health components in the multiple linear regression. The model was built with the aim of identifying which of the components most influence the increase in GDP, and thus help managers in decision-making and proposition of public policies. Based on the work carried out, it was possible to observe that the educational component had the greatest impact on the per capita GDP of Minas Gerais municipalities. Despite this, the other components cannot be neglected, as in addition to being necessary and related to the increase in GDP, they are responsible for increasing the levels of human and economic development in the region.
